My Son and I

I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Janet and I am married to Bob, a  retired minister, mother of 4 (3 daughters and 1 son), grandmother of 10 and a retired school teacher.  All of my dear children are married and involved in ministry with their spouses. All 3 of my son in laws serve as ministers in churches. I am blessed because one of my son in laws serves in a church a short driving distances from my home. The other two serves in churches about an 11 hour drive away and in opposite directions of each other. Honestly, this doesn’t make me very happy! But in order to deal with it, I have to rely on God. It’s draws me closer to Him and I couldn’t do this without God.

My son and his wife, however, have answered God’s call to serve as foreign missionaries and have two young sons. While we are very familiar with serving on staff in a church, the call to missions was a new and unfamiliar road for all of us.

We embraced it though and have given our full and heartfelt support to them as they embarked upon this new journey–doing anything and everything we could to support them.  I have shared my experiences along the way trying as best as I could to be transparent, so that my readers could clearly see my honest struggles and how by God’s grace and mercy I am learning to live life separated from my son and his family hoping that others in my situation will benefit from what God teaches me.

I was challenged and blessed when my husband and I made our first trip to Africa following the birth of our son & daughter in law’s first child. (that trip is reflected in my Back to the Bush posts). Then we beheld their 2nd child on a trip to Scotland. Our son was preparing to enroll at the Univ of Edinburgh. This required a hands on visit there and my husband and I were thrilled to join them there. It had been my dream for many years to travel to Scotland.  So not only did I get to see Scotland, we were able to hold our 2nd grandson for the first time.

If you are interested, you may visit my blog, http://boundforscotland.blogspot.com. and catch a glimpse of the adventures that unfolded on my dream trip.

What an interesting idea for a blog! I know my parents have been through many of the things you share here. People often forget the price the families pay for the missionaries calling. I pray your blog can be a blessing to many missionaries and their folk back home.

I sure will, and if you know of anyone who could benefit from our blog “Counting Our Days”, which has missions stories, tips, etc. from our 26+ years on the field, so likewise! We write to encourage others (missionaries and non) to keep on keeping on–because giving our all for Christ is worth any cost! Thanks, and keep up the good work!
